Press Statement

November 28, 2011

The oppression and injustices suffered by the Bangsamoro people from the hands of the Philippine colonial government are getting serious day by day, where millions worth of properties ruined and destroyed and tens of thousands of lives are lost, and yet there is no concrete and viable solution been accorded by the government to the Bangsamoros and other inhabitants of Mindanao.

As option for peace to the longstanding armed conflict, the effort to address the age-old problem through peaceful means is a welcome development. The irony the peace negotiation between the Philippine government (GPH), and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) has already been running to 14 years and yet there is no political settlement has been reached today. Now, we are 100% that the present government like her predecessors is not addressing but managing the conflict in order to complete its term unimpeded.

FAST TRACK GPH – MILF PEACE NEGOTIATION

The legitimate struggle of the Bangsamoro people for their right to self-determination and freedom being spearheaded by the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) has been here with us for quite a time.

Believing, however, that negotiation is the most practical and civilized way to resolve the Moro Question, the MILF entered peace negotiation with the Government of the Philippine (GPH) in 1997. For 14 years since then, the peace negotiation has been in an off-and-on mode and no political agreement has been reached yet.

Under the Aquino administration, the MILF submitted a proposal with a political structure which will give a space for the Bangsamoro people to exercise their right to self-determination in the form of a state-sub-state relationship. It is strongly believed that the proposed sub-state is not a divisive approach in resolving the Moro Question but, rather, a formula for national unity and reconciliation. It is a power-sharing formula. It does not monopolize the political and economic dimensions of governance.
